Help/FAQ / Re: Installer woes
« on: 2006-12-11, 11:13:21 AM »
ok I had some media files in sub directories  ;D

I put everything in the one directory and changed the location in the media manger.

BUT, it is a 3 level game. And it is still not finding level 2 and 3. so when I run the game level 1 works fine, then 2  and 3 are missing. It just goes blank after level 1.

I get : Error loading map: path not found

hmm

OH I just realised I had been saving those maps in a different directory. I had som many back up folders it got confusing.

This whole subject has been a bit of stream of conciousness. I am tempted to delete it, but I will leave it up in case it is helpful to anyone

Jobs a good un. I'll put the game online soon

Ok so I re-installed the dev kit and it seemed to work, I built the Nsis script and NSIS seemed to compile and compress it all nicely

when I go to play it i get

Error loading map: path not found

then when I click ok It sort of half works then I get an automation error

I click ok

then I get Object doesnt support this action

followed by

Error playing map:Display must be open to flip

then it all goes tits up and exits

I'll search the forum now to see if there are any similar errors

Help/FAQ / Installer woes
« on: 2006-12-11, 10:04:39 AM »
Hi

I have searched the forum but have not managed to find what I am looking for.

My game is finished. I hit tools > install packager and i get ' Invalid procedure call or argument.

I have installed the nullsoft install system, version 2.06 also.

What should I look at and what info would you need to be able to help me?

Oh I also nearly have this working in linux with wine, I am having a slight problem with the tilesets, but I am pretty sure it is something to do with having the correct write permissions.

it all seems to install fine :) but then the problems come when trying to launch it, however they do not seem massive! have a look

maybe this topic has mutated a bit.

I tried both kits in linux (Ubuntu 6.06)

no surprises that they didnt work (I'm sure there will be some genius out there that can hack it all together)

anyhow it might be helpful to post the output from my terminal below

Code: [Select]

spoon@hovercraft:~/Desktop$ sudo wine setup.exe

basically it doesnt work because it am not running it in windows I think :)

I am using this kit to buid a game with a sort of youth club.

I ran a few sessions with them showing them how to storyboard, design sprites, tiles and maps, Then I buit the game according to their designs. I was going to give them the game yesterday before the crash.

I didnt want them to be dissapointed so thats why I re-built it super fast, I got 1.5 playable levels built again.

In future I know to regularly backup the entire project folder  ;D

oh one quick question, has anyone ever tried using this kit under linux using wine?

That is a very generous offer, much appreciated.

actually I stayed up ALL night and re built it. I think it was probably for the best as I really learned a lot about improving my workflow by doing it all again.

My laptop seems to hate the map editor, the processor seriously overheats when I am using it, last night it overheated and shut down while I was working on the game. This must have corrupted the data. I was using a powerfull p4 laptop with an ati mobility radeon 9700. Anyhow I switched to using a crappy old laptop and everything was fine!

Anyhow my eyes are hanging out of my head now. I will put the game somewhere when it is completed.

Many thanks though

This is a bit of a nightmare.

Im working on a big game, It is just about finished.

When I tried to load it up to do the last few tweaks I get

error deserializing data

I thread going back to a previously saved version but it says the maps are invalid.

Is there anything I can do? or am I up a certain creak without a paddle?

Help/FAQ / Re: solidity definitions and tile sets

Thanks,

Yep I get it now  ;)

I am going to re write the game and make my tilesets much bigger and also make some 'dummy' tiles to go behind the transparent ones.

Thanks for the support  ;D

Ok I  think I might be able to re-phrase my question now.

I think my proble boils down to Map Layers

I have made a simple version of my game. It has 1 map That map has 2 layers.

I can make tiles solid on the background non transparent layer. But I cannot make tiles solid on the transparent layer. I'm guessing this is probably impossible?

So how do i use more than one tile set on my original background layer?

Thanks

hello,

Thanks for that big reply!

I followed your indstructions and that works fine.

but in the game i am writing, i follow the same principals but it still does not work. I have been fiddling with it for hours to try and make sense of it and not write a stupid post here, but I am stuck.

What are the possible stupid mistakes I am making

Help/FAQ / solidity definitions and tile sets
« on: 2006-11-10, 06:21:50 AM »
Does a sprite need to belong to the same tile set as say a platform tile in order for the solidity definition of the platform tile to work?

I am building a game and was trying to bulid it with multiple tile sets. But I cannot make a tile in tile set 3 solid when my sprite belongs to tile set 1.

is it just a simple case of this will never work or am I doing somethng wrong?

thanks
