Title: Make free easy cool flash based web sites...
Post by: TheLaw on 2009-11-13, 09:53:55 AM
I've struggled many-a-time hacking up a website with pure html code and a few wysiwyg editors. But Wix.com is the answer to nearly all my prayers! With Wix you can make a cool animated, flashy website by draging and dropping -for free (*of course it's a little limited and they'll gladly take your money for a pro account...!)

I found the diff with Wix is that it gives you a lot of pretty flash tools - so you can easily make something lively and cool in no time.
...Mind you I'm not a web guy so if this is stale old news and there's something better I'd kinda like to know.

Five gold stars from me! Check it out:

Humm, I just had a good session on Wix. I started from scratch and came up this:

http://www.wix.com/S_G_D_K/SGDK (http://www.wix.com/S_G_D_K/SGDK)

Not so bad for an hour or so's work!

(I'm not redesigning SGDK website, I'm just playing...)

Is it possible to make the text of a flash-based site get indexed by Google?

Yes sir..?

text of a flash-based site get indexed by Google

Well, humm, I'm sure that I'm missing the point. But the "Indexed by Google" part is provided by Wix. They have a common SEO in play (search engine optimization (with tags) in play. I never filled out the SEO section for this site, but I did another test and provided some unique SEO and when I went back and googled, it showed me my test site - first page too!

Text of flash? Humm, You mean like if flash doesn't exist - display a regular text version instead? If so?, Ive seen some such thing before. I can't say for sure, but I'd say it'd require a "premium" account with premium support, and premium effort.

Does this site run like pooh for you? It kinda does for me too! LOL, but it's loaded with SFX. I suck and design! It'd run/load beter with a stagnant background, etc.

Not sure if I responded to your questions, but there is some to chew on for now.

I don't think I heard any sound effects (performance seemed fine to me).  But my question was this:
Assume I Google the terms:
"SGDK2" "official homepage"

Since that text does not appear in the source code of the page (when you "view source" in the browser), and I assume those particular phrases don't show up quite like that in the tags, would Google ever index the site to link the page to that search like it does with the current site?  It's not significant for a search like this, but if a flash site had the full text, someone might search for "open source" and "OpenTK" to look for open source projects based on OpenTK or something.

The google indexer is text based. If you want to see what google sees, download a browser called lynx.

Basically what I've seen done is the flash is embedded on a small html page, which would be written something like this: (love psuedocode)

embed flash object
redirect to asdasd.html

That flash object contains the flash site, and some code to stop the rest of the html page being processed,( so if flash is active the person is not redirected to asdasd.html. If they don't have flash, (like google indexer) they get redirected to a simpler page with the same text.)

So that the author doesn't have to update both files every time they want to make an update, the flash object contains code to include all the text from the html page so they can simply update the html page and the flash objects automatically update their content.

Alright:

http://www.wix.com/S_G_D_K/SGDK

Some more work has been done to that other SGDK flash site that I've been playing with. It's come to my attention that this big flash disaster-piece I've been working on is not running on some computers/browsers.  If you get the chance, try it out, see if it works at all, and see if it runs decently (fast) for me please.  There's a comments page that you can use on the site if you wish...

My next tower of babel is making it searchable by google (and other..). So far no dice.
Here's the only search that works: http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&rlz=1C1GGLS_enCA342CA342&q=sgdk+wix&btnG=Search&meta=&aq=f&oq=

...and it involves the word wix, so that's no darn good!
...and you can see here: http://websitegrader.com/site/www.wix.com/S_G_D_K/SGDK
...that is was "crawled" by google on Nov.28, so, something is awry!

Anyway, I'd be a bit happier if people can run it!
Thanks.

LOL... the comment in the comments section is funny, but I don't know that I could allow it on a site that I'd put my name on... think some people would be offended and leave or prevent their kids from using the site?
