Title: Castlevania: Death's Premonition, Help Me!
Post by: v6v on 2009-06-17, 10:43:18 PM
So, I my hands on my cousin's computer, copied the the Sgdk2.0setup via flash drive,
and I started on a new project with my nerdy dweeb friends.
If you don't know abot Castlevania, it's about a family trying to kill Dracula every 100 years.
My main Characters are Raytus Belmont, Grandson of Juste Belmont,
and Jennifer Kishine, granddaughter of Maxim Kishine. I have the sprites both made and here's how they operate:
Raytus wields and slings his whip with the CTRL button... Holding the button allows you to sling the whip in a continous motion. His weapons are- holy water, The Bible (idk) a dagger, axes, crucifixes, a silver bullet pistol.
Jennifer wields a pan-dimensional sword with ctrl (Valmanway), and holding control lets her release a blade vortex, severly damaging all enemies in contact. She uses all of the weapons as Raytus, but her Bible attack is different.
Unlockable Characters are Renon the shopkeeper, and Wraith, a being Raytus's manfested evil.
You start out in the forest with no abilities, but you gain them as you reach game progression.

Ideas? I remember someone on this site being a CastleV Fan...

Artwork for enemies? Mates?
Level design and ideas?

This'll be a mix of harmony of dissonance and aria of sorrow.

Oh, right, most importantly, I need music and people committed to this project to throw in ideas! and get credit (girls roger game progs and artists!) Just reply, mates.

Sorry for the unappealling paragraph, mate, the DSi doesn't do smileys.

Have you actually implemented anything or is this all theortical/planning still?

Like I said, mate, I have the sprites/ characters already made. I have the first level, the Forest of Silence Made, and I have skeletons as enemies.(They randomly appear from random areas of the ground)
I have a knockdown song as the music that I made in Anvil studio.
(I need the FL studio patch)
And whipping as well as twirling and slashing sounds.

The characters are both playable, but only Raytus can use sub-weapons right now. Both can perform a primary attack.
Everything else not stated in here is, indeed, planning.

How often do you say mate, mate?

My girlfriend thinks I'm not American, and that I'm "Korallian",(a made up country) so I put on a fake nonsense accent and dialect to impress her. So now, I have to use the words mate and love in my speech. If I don't, she'll probably dump me, and she's waaaay too hot to leave (sorry about that glibber glabber, she's just soo pretty)
So I say things like wallydrop and rogeryos and "Great Jim's Garrison!"

Please, don't let her see this...

I mean, imagine the child of a valykarie and a geisha and that's how cute she is..! If she leaves me, I might get a mental breakdown and spiral into depression, mate.

Is it just me or the odds of a Valkyrie and a Geisha having a child together are quite unlikely...  Since both are females!

Tsk tsk tsk...
Well Pizzaman, I think you should begin to prepare right away for that "mental breakdown", because it's not likely she will think its funny when she finds out you've been lying to her all along.   :P

By the way, how old are you?  Your profile says N/A.  :P

Korallian = Korean mixed with Australian?

Great job, guys, she Googled it and found out it's not a real country.
I'm single, now... thanks for the support...

She slapped me and threw my 20 dollar "Korallian" gift back in my face. no more accents.

And I'm between 10 and 14.  guess.

lolol!!!

Sorry man, but it's still very funny!

My advice: don't try to impress girls by being someone you're not.  Just be yourself.   ;)

that's exactly what she said...
but she was slapping.

Maybe you can still recover if you sincerely tell her why you were being "Korallian" and why you liked her enough to pretend to be Korallian, and then stop hiding/pretending things (including this suggestion not being your own idea, in case Google foils you again).

Is it just a coincidence that she happened to Google Korallian on the same day you told us about it, or has this all just been a very short term thing that started no more than a week ago?

Yah, this has been going on for a while before I told you all. She called me early this morning telling me that she googled it up... you know the rest. She never thought before to look it up before, trusting me and listening to my friends, all who lied to get me a date.

A sick joke: I thought she wasn't ever going to look it up any time soon and texted some friends about how gullible she is. As punishment, I lost the only girlfriend I'll probably have till I'm 18. I think someone told her. (Getting back to my project now and refraining from boring you all with my social life...)

Quote:" Including this suggestion not being your own idea"
What do you mean?

If you decided to tell her that you realized you should be sincere with her, and then if she came here and saw that someone told you to be sincere she might think that you're not even sincere about being sincere if you didn't also tell her where you got the idea -- Idunno -- does that make any more sense than the original statement? :)

I'm safe here. I'll probably just be sincere just to get my reputation as an honest guy instead of the neighborhood liar...

4 years from now. Can you draw the interior of a Castle? Or mythalogical monsters in 45 X45 pixel frames? By the way, who did the art for Dark elf orb of aniallation?

Wow, I didn't read this part of the topic when I posted my first post.
You should keep trying. There's plenty of love out there for you. Just keep trying.

I don't know about working on the castle interior, but I can make a mythological monster.
What kind of monster are you looking for?

Something like a human demon mix.
Anything.
Can you do it like the Tony game,
pixeled, not anti-aliased?
That is what makes an awesome game! (Ignore the PSP castlevania, DS pixeled castlevania is better in my opinion.)
Oh, and it needs a good dying/respawn animation!
(sorry about all of the rules...)
yay, I don't say "mate" anymore!
Sweetness!
But ignore these rules- just be free and make the very first thing to mind! Originality!

As far as gameplay ideas go, might I suggest looking at older games that were similar in play-style to the game you're making? The thing is, older games had to use simpler concepts which in turn are easier to recreate in SGDK2. Take the old 'dissappearing blocks over a chasm' trick. You watch the pattern, then try to jump across the blocks in time with the vanishing/reappearing. Simple to do, but was pretty interesting in the Megaman games.
For something a bit newer feeling, how about a hookshot (NOT grappling hook. Think Legend of Zelda) that would pull the character toward certain blocks. It could make for interesting tower climbs inside your huge castle... Crumbling tower pieces you have to hookshot from, perhaps?

Lastly, for something really uniqe, how about creating a layer on the maps that has standard tiles obscuring hidden doors, power-ups, etc. And the character could stand still and push a button to make that layer dissappear until you start moving again? It would be like the Lens of Truth (Ocarina of Time), and you could call it "Eye of the Phantom" or something. Imagine running into a dead-end early on in the game and then coming back with the Phantom Eye later only to find out it wasn't a dead-end after all and it leadis to treasure of some sort.

im gonna guess: are you a zelda fan?

The reason I'm referring to Zelda is because most people are familiar with the games. For example, I mentioned the Lens of Truth, but I was thinking about Golden Sun's "Reveal" psynergy. Since I figured more people would recognize the Lens, I used it instead. (Though the fact that you get the Lens of Truth in the creepiest Zelda location ever might have made me use it for a Castlevania thread, too...)
In regards to graphics, look up Michael Miller's Castle graphics for SGDK1. Though limited, it doesn't look too bad in my opinion.

I found a link that had a few graphics for Castlevania enemies. Here you go;

Hope it helps a little.

You just have to change the calls for directx to opengl as far as I know.

ATI Drivers

Is it 'GL_ARB_texture_rectangle' that you're referring to? If so, that will only freeze up the map editor sometimes (you just need to reopen it, no data loss involved) and the weather effects won't work, asides from fade to color.
Besides for the technical issues, is everything else ok?
Title: Re: Castlevania: Death's Premonition, Help Me!

You could try removing the validation for GL_TEXTURE_RECTANGLE_ARB (or whatever it's called) from Display.cs and see if it'll run anyway.  Otherwise, it shouldn't be hard to update your drivers by visiting the support section of your video card manufacturer's web site.  But that doesn't always fix the problem.
