Title: Can I do this?
Post by: Twitch on 2006-08-09, 10:50:18 AM
Hello all.  ;D This is my first post. I hope im in the right spot for this.  I just downloaded  the SGDK and it looks great.  I'm looking into using it for my next game.  Its a Super Smash Bros like game.  My big "Q" is can I make a 2 player fighting game (simaler to S.S.B.) with SGDK? If so would I beable to make onlockable fighters and extras of the sort?  Would I need to dive into scrip for this or will i be able to pull it off will only a little to no scripting?  I would love some feed back on this befor i dive into it and find out i may have bit off more then i can chew.  Thanks every one. :D

You will likely find that many things can be done without scripting, but are anywhere from twice as easy to infinitely easier to do using script.  For this type of project, I would definetely reccommend using script, as it's not exactly what SGDK was designed for.

Hopefully SGDK2 will have inherent multiplayer support... wink wink nudge nudge?  ;)

It may depend on your definition of "inherent".  I might try to turn SGDK2 into a truly multi-developer project and allow other people to check in template scripts... so maybe someone else could make a multi-player template for me and then The responsibility for SGDK2 could be shared. :o

do you mean like a button you can click to make it so you can choose two player sprites instead of one because this would be really cool and that way we dont have to use script

Ok So there's no 2 player right now in SGDK 1 :-\.  That would put a kink in my idea of a one on one fighting game like Smash Bros :-[.  This makes me sad. :'(  I really hope some one can help with 2 player in SGDK 2.  I've been looking for a good freeware game making engine for some time now and this is the best I have found, i think its great ;D and cant wate to dive into using it more.  You see my old Klick and Play does not work anymore. :( I was looking to SGDK so I could finish a few games I had started (or start some Ideas I have) :D.  Any way I'm still going to use SGDK for my platformer I'm making.  In the mean time... If any one has any Ideas of how to do a basic fun fighing game using SGDK please share the info with me  ;D thanks! 8)

Keep Up the Good Work out there PPL

What gives you that idea?  There is two-player support in SGDK 1, just not by default.  You would have to use some script.
