Title: Racing Game Starter Kit
Post by: bluemonkmn on 2009-09-09, 03:54:25 PM
Rubix Cube, I see you submitted this project.  But did you notice the huge bold print on the Project Listing Homepage (http://sgdk2.enigmadream.com/)? ;)  The submission isn't quire right... can you fix it?  (Don't include all the extra files.)

It looks like all the files are still there.  What did you change?

I tossed out anything that wasn't a car sprite, and it doesn't compile anymore. That's what you wanted, right?

he only wants the .sgdk2 file in the .zip file

Only the SGDK2 file should be included in your archive. Feel free to include documentation and license information and such, but do not include the files generated by compiling your project.

Yeah... did you not look at the page I linked to?  I didn't want you to remove anything from within the project.  Obviously I still want the project to compile and run if that's what it does.  (I don't want you to remove integral components like Microsoft removing IE from windows and delivering a broken OS ;)).

They were forced to do that.

They were forced to do that.

I think they might have intentionally mis-interpreted the ruling to draw attention to the justice systems "stupidity" that didn't really exist.  When they came back to court he said "did you really think I wanted you to deliver a broken OS?" and demonstrated how all he meant was that he wanted the icon removed from the desktop.  It was just a communication failure.

Ok, I think I got it right this time. Glad I could put in the rest of the files, though; I included a small map that demonstrates the Sprite.

Oh, and I know this is off-topic but does the one-eyed creature from SHFL have a name?

... I named him Cyclo in one project.

That's better.  I noticed that your car sprite is missing a couple features provided by the car sprite delivered with SGDK2.  1) It doesn't avoid overlapping solids if you pull up next to a wall and turn, or hit a wall head on ; 2) You can turn when you're not moving, which seems odd.  Did you not use the existing car sprite as an example?

That ice feature is pretty slick, though ... no pun intended.

I did that intentionally to make it easier to avoid crashing into walls, but I guess I made it a bit too large.

Complete oversight on my part. I actually only used the graphic from the car sprite, though. I wrote the rules from scratch.
You see, I originally had a racing game being made but some computer issues resulted in it getting deleted. All I had left was the BlueCar that I exported as a template and a few of my graphics that I saved as a PNG file, so I pieced together this template from them. Guess I'll update them sometime and fix these issues.

I've just been calling him Mr. Happy-Fun. Wonder if his creator ever gave him a name?

The car template is delivered with SGDK2.  You could just download it again?  ???

No, no, I had the entire BlueCar sprite, rules and all. I happened to export that one as a sprite template a while before my game got deleted (which had four at the time), so I was able to make what you see in my template from it. Me writing all the rules from scratch had nothing to do with me losing data; I wrote it that way at the very start and just used the car graphic since it looks way better then I would have made.
I may get back to making a racing game, but I figured I'd let everyone use my cars in the meantime, or incase I don't get around to starting my project over.

I updated the project; details are in the Remository.
