Game Development Artistry / Game Programming College Portfolio
« on: 2013-02-07, 07:05:33 PM »
Hey! It's been forever! I just thought I'd update on what I've been doing the past few years with a Demo Reel.

[[There appears to be no youtube embedder....bummer]]

I'll be finishing college in about 6 more weeks then it's off to find a job (most likely California, since that's where all the jobs are now, or I can risk it by joining one of several of my classmates' independent game studios or be lucky and find one in the midwest)

So I've been gone for so long and I've got my whole life ahead of me now, so it might be safe to say that I may not be coming back here for a long time. I just wanted to say thanks for all the friendships and advice for all of these years. It's been a blast and I think I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for any of you.

Game Development Artistry / 2wenty Dungeons Official Blog
« on: 2011-10-16, 01:00:34 AM »
I know I said some things in the past about how I would start up on this project but then just leave it behind. Well, I made a blog at http://2wentydungeons.tumblr.com that shows the current process of this game. I think for sure I can finish this, but I can't do it without any support. All I need is something that assures me that somebody out of the 3,000,000+ who use the internet every day who will take the time to listen to what I have to say. A simple follow on the blog would help, please.

But anyways, I'm finally starting this up again. At this current time, I'm planning on using XNA (maybe flash) as an engine, but if I find something better, I'll use that instead. I'm making it a goal that I complete a playable demo of this game by the time I graduate from college (Spring 2012).

If there is anybody who still visits here left, please let me know if you support this game. This has been my lifelong dream and I can't do this alone and I'll need any help that I can get.

[EDIT 10/18/2011 1:27PM] Please follow my blog at http://2wentydungeon.tumblr.com or RSS Feed: http://2wentydungeons.tumblr.com/rss

Game Development Artistry / An idea for a new console
« on: 2011-06-30, 08:21:17 AM »
With the announcement of the Wii U and it going to HD, this made me think about the fact that all 8th generation systems will be in HD which will be more expensive to produce leaving smaller companies little chance of getting noticed in the home console department. One idea that I have is there should be a least 1 SD console in the market that game companies and consumers can afford. In the 7th generation, the PS2 was still popular enough to do this as well as the Wii wasn't in HD. What do you guys think?

Game Development Artistry / E3 2011
« on: 2011-06-06, 07:40:01 PM »
So who here is excited for E3? Personally, there are a few games that I am overly excited for this year:

Rabbids (Kinect)
Rayman Origins
Rocksmith
Minecraft (Xperia Play)
Zelda: Skyward Sword
Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3DS
Zelda 3DS (hopefully)
New Pokemon (maybe Gray? for the 3DS?)
Mario 3DS
MarioKart 3DS
Edit:
Luigi's Mansion 2
Mario Party 9
Wii U

I haven't seen Microsoft's Press Conference, but from what I hear they're making Halo 4 and not by Bungie?

Ubisoft's was probably the most exciting conference I've seen so far this year, especially when they demo'd the Rabbids game

Sony's is ongoing as I type this, but now they're calling the NGP the PSVita  (which I'm having a very hard time pronouncing)

I'm not particularly interested in EA's, so I might not be watching that.

Nintendo's isn't until tomorrow, but I can't wait to see what they have in store for the 3DS, Wii and Project Cafe/Wii2/Stream/ect.
NINTENDO! You blew my mind this year! :surprise: :surprise: :surprise: Wii U, 3DS, Zelda. YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!

So what do you guys think?

Game Development Artistry / Some college projects
« on: 2011-04-19, 09:51:09 PM »
Hey, it's been a while! Just wanted to stop by and show some recent college :educated: projects I've been working on. So....here it is.......I'm still trying to think of something worth while to say.....lemons?

The playlist: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=82440A8757A79A97

But anyways, I've discovered Unity and I thought that one of my games that I made up before I started using SGDK might be perfect for that engine, so I just might start developing that game (eventually) once I learn how to use it.

So the 3DS officially comes out next year. Just by watching these videos, I was convinced. I'm getting one :D

But seriously, what do you guys think? I think I'ts going to be a great system. If the 3D doesn't work out, at least the graphics look awesome enough for the system to stand on its own.

Off-Topic / E3 2010
« on: 2010-06-16, 06:52:07 PM »
As many of you know, E3 2010 started today. What are you guys anxious about this year?

Personally, I'm most anxious for The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and the Nintendo3DS. For Zelda, I have been a huge Zelda fan for a while now, and this new one supports the use of the Wii Motion Plus for not only combat, but also quickly switching from one item to the next. The graphics are also cell shaded a lot like Wind Waker. For the 3DS, I'm not anxious about how the 3D graphics help perfect gameplay, but also some of it's other features such as the motion sensor which can be useful for FPS games and the analog pad to perfect 360 movement. Also, they are planning to remake Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the 3DS with all new graphics. To be honest, I'm veeery excited for E3 this year!!!  ;D :) :o 8) :P :canadian: :canadian: :surprise: :ugly:

Projects / The RANAT Foundation: Before the Truth
« on: 2010-05-25, 03:11:24 AM »
Yes, I am back! I've been pretty much caught up with a lot of homework, so I haven't been able to do too much, but I have finally decided to go ahead and restart on my game after a year-long hiatus.

I'm planning on doing a few changes to the way I will work on this.

  • Starting about June, 1, I get a 2 week break from college, so this will give me some time to start on the project.
  • After that, I will try my best to update every two weeks.
  • I will be writing all 4 levels out on paper first before doing any work on the computer. I also reduced the number of levels so I can finish it faster. (They still will be in 2 parts and the Boss)
  • I am also completely redesigning Basic3D for easier level editing. The current one requires 3 layers to work and it takes waaay too much time to edit and switching layers is a pain, even with the script. The new model will only need 1 layer. It will also be easier to change the design.

I want to be able to finish this in at my own pace, so I won't set a release date...yet. Hopefully I can get it done before I graduate (for my portfolio).

I'll keep posting as I get stuff done!

Off-Topic / My Future
« on: 2010-05-05, 07:04:33 AM »
Hey you all. I just want to let you know of what my plans are for the future.

After a whole year's hiatus I'll start working on RANAT again starting in June. I have yet to decide whether it will be on SGDK 1 or 2. (most likely 1, since it is already 1/2 way done there). I am expecting a lot of college homework, so I'll try my best to work on it weekends and update once every month. I'm going to take my time on this one and finish it when it gets done. Expect this (or not) to be released Q1 2012.

I have started a YouTube channel exclusively for uploading my gaming videos. Here I will upload some of my updates as well as some college projects like Unreal Levels. It is http://youtube.com/MidnightMascott

My other projects, 2wenty Dungeons and Codename: Midnight, are projects I want to work on once I finish College. I have not decided if they will be on SGDK or not.

But other than that, I probably won't be visiting very much (although nothing much is happening right now).

So until my next update,
SmartBoy16
