if you go too fast to the right or the left it won't move. plus the bullets only shoot where the current mouse position is

there are some image files that support 16 bit color with transparency, 15bit is color and 1bit is the alpha channel

it does, only the map editor doesn't work. the graphics editor works, but really slows down my system. my compute is a 98se with only 256 MB of memory. I'm planning to get a new one soon anyway.

Help, Errors, FAQ / 24 bit vs 32 bit
« on: 2007-08-25, 05:55:05 AM »
i was just wondering, if SGDK2 involves having alpha transparency, shouldn't a 32 bit graphics card be required for running SGDK2. My (outdated) graphics card only supports up to 24 bit color and cannot correctly view PNG graphics without clogging up my system. (usually i can have up to two large size pictures doing this)

Off-Topic / Re: Vista or Xp?
« on: 2007-08-21, 09:08:46 AM »
I would agree with that. Vista has great features, but slows down a lot, especially if you are using a laptop. XP would do a lot better for now. I you do get Vista, i would wait until its next service pack is avalable or it becomes faster.

You can also open the file in an editor that has a "Replace all" function. Most of them are rich text editors like Microsoft Word. if you do use it make sure you save it in text only format

Edit->Replace... then type in .bmp for the find box and .jpg for the replace with box. some include a "comfirmation" type thing where it hilights the word and asks you if you want to replace it. otherwise click replace all to do this automatically.

Script / Re: mouse aiming and shooting script

you can also while youre saving a file from notepad, where it says "Save as type: (combo box)Text Document" Select all files and put the ".vbs" after the filename. Hope this helps.

ooo ooo!
to turn off the "hide extentions thing"
just open mycomputer, click tools-> folder options-> and uncheak "hide known extentions"

this only works for Windows Me and above. for windows 95/98/98se you need to go to View->Folder Options...

Off-Topic / A Game of Words Shareware (v.1.0)
« on: 2007-08-14, 11:20:43 AM »
Here's a game i made using Dev-C++. I started this two years ago and i thought i should release it by now. note that this is a shareware version and a full version is not avalable right now. the game is very limited (at least you can gamble) so not very meny things can be done. If you have suggestions post then here. hope you like it.

what im trying to say is whatever's filled in is what would be solid on the game.

right now it is set to solid. i want to know if there is a way to make a tile partialy solid, not just different slopes

General Discussion / Re: how do you design?
« on: 2007-08-11, 03:28:08 PM »
what seems to work best for me is I first create the first level. i think of the things that happen in that level. (like soliding platforms in Codename: Paperboy). then i figure out how this could be used in-game (like going through the level while getting the right items in the right order). then i ask for others opinions on how they think the game would turn out like. (in my case, asking my sisters or posting it here). after getting opinions, i start on the next levels and in some cases a demo level. usualy these are in "primitave graphics" but change later on. then i start composing music (or find music online) that go with each level. Finally i update the graphics to match the first level (though by then, in Codename: Paperboy, i would have changed from the SHFL graphics). then i test the game out with others tjo see if i missed any "bugs". then i put all of the file together, zip them, post it, and release it. then it's done.

it works, thanks.

get the file here. http://www.box.net/shared/t6vo2gtsjg

it works best on Word 2000 or later

here's a way that i used to duplicate sprites.

not that the file is ONE MEG so it may take a while. Dial up users may take about 2 minutes to load

except that the limit doesnt let me do that, so i'll just tell you after i upload it to my website (i've already reached the "quota" so i need to wait a while to do that)
