General Discussion / SGDK2 Website
« on: 2010-05-25, 09:56:47 AM »
Hi all,
Lately I've been messing around a bit in photoshop trying to design a new layout for the SGDK2 site.
I've become a lot busier recently and it's been getting neglected so I decided to post my mockup here and see if anyone else would be interested in working on it.
If you are interested at all please contact me and I'll send you the .psd file.

Projects / Death Wish

I started a new game...again...
I'll probably get bored of this one after a while like all the others, but what do you think of level 1? Level 1 is 100% complete and I just started Level 2.

Projects / New Game
« on: 2006-10-09, 07:39:05 PM »
Well...Screw Speedy Turtle 3...Im givin' up on that series...(although eric22222 Im gonna use your music in my new game).
My new game's about this little green martian thing...I might redo him because I made him quite a while ago...I was so happy with it's walk cycle back then. Now I don't really like it. But I did some graphics...(The little plant that will only get used like 5 times throughout the whole game took me like 30 mins! and it doesn't even look good...). No storyline yet..I don't even know what's going to happen in the game. All I've got planned really is the martian guy is super small so the background and objects are really big compared to it. If you've got any ideas on what I should put in this game thatd be appreciated (sp?), I have very little creativity.
Haven't really decided on a name yet.

I've got a couple of problems already...
1) The pencil is in the background, but it is also a sprite. A 'platform' sprite. The character can jump up and walk along it easily, but when he doesn't jump he goes behind the pencil. How do I fix this?
2) Normally I would avoid this altogether and make it so you don't get to walk on the tip of the pencil but I don't want to. I'd rather script around it or something. When you get to the tip of the pencil you float... There isn't a way to solve this without scripting is there? If there isn't could somebody give me some guidelines about scripting around it? Thanks in advance.

Here are some screens:

General Discussion / Userbar
« on: 2006-09-10, 04:50:53 PM »
Well...I recently downloaded GIMP and have been fiddling around with it for a while now. I dont know if anyone's ever heard of userbars but on some forums they're quite popular in signatures...
Anyways...There was a tutorial on how to make them with GIMP on the official Userbar site (http://www.userbars.com).
So, even though it isn't out yet, I made this...SGDK2 Userbar

Off-Topic / Stickman
« on: 2006-08-01, 06:43:45 PM »
I don't know if anybody has ever thought of this but, I made this, did all the stupid monotonous boring stuff to resize everything and put it all in a tileset.
Here it is : http://www.geocities.com/sam_2d_online/stickman.bmp
I'll probably never use it. I know it's not the best but...yah...take it if you want.

Projects / Speedy Turtle III
« on: 2006-07-19, 04:49:02 PM »
Here's my new board to keep y'all updated 'bout Speedy turtle III ;D
Anyways I've got very intense sparks rising above the lava (In Level 2). and guess what, The lava ball isn't right next to the lava!! You have to ride a tiny platform to get up to where the lava ball is. Incase you don't remember the lava ball turns you into Lava turtle, who can swim through lava. And if you miss the platform you land in the lava :P Oh yah, Level 1 is complete, it takes place outdoors, You have to get a shovel, dig  underground through the um...breakable tiles. Then u get the key and some other thing that is needed but I can't remember right now. It's better than the levels in Speedy turtle II. Anyways I hope to add a lot of cool new features to this version, such as: weapons, enemies, harder levels, and new items. I'm open to any suggestions. And eric22222 is doing background music for me. So it's gonna be good. Maybe once I get a new microphone headset I'll do some sound effects. I've got a few programs that can do a lot to sounds. I just have to learn what each thing does. When I'm done, maybe I'll go back and redo some of the graphics. Because the graphics are extremely simple TileStudio Graphics.

Projects / This is kinda cool...

http://www.geocities.com/sam_2d_online/arrowtest.zip  (13KB)

I was just trying out some things to see if an archery game could be made... So far it's working good. I was messing around with collision effects and got this to happen. I was trying to make it so the arrow stops when it hits the target but, this happened. I may just leave it like this, but if anybody has a good idea on how to make it stop then please share.

I haven't even tried to make a power bar yet but I think it could be done... :)

Help/FAQ / Total Reset
« on: 2006-06-30, 08:05:35 AM »
I'm guessing this has probably been addressed before but I couldn't find it. Is there a way to reset the entire game for a game over? As in, closing the game and re-opening it almost. Because if you just use 'switch to new map' then all the stuff (ie. used functions, tile switches) on the map (except for sprites) is still the same. Thanks.

Off-Topic / cursor creator
« on: 2006-06-14, 06:20:45 PM »
Hey, anyone know of any good freeware cursor creators? I downloaded one but it wasn't that great, it could only make cursors 32x32 non-transparent.

Projects / Intensifidation
« on: 2006-06-06, 07:40:42 PM »
My new project. Intensifidation. Does that name make sense to any of you? I just took the word intense and kind of stretched it...just a bit...but, Intensified is a real word: The sun intensified the glare of the snow. Anyways, I just spent the last ten minutes zipping and unzipping and shortening and cutting off files to try to make this game small enough to post here but The lowest I could get it was 380KB so I'll just post a screenshot. I even had to make the screenshot really small just to post it. The files are so big because of the backgrounds, which are actually pictures taken from my backyard. You play this little dude which has no name (yet). Theres no gameplay yet but I made some clean graphics for it with TS. The "dude"s walk cycle (in my mind) is amazing. It looks good. Probably because I actually gave him knees. Anyways the dude is really small (I'll have to add some storyline where he shrunk from some evil spell...) so the bgs are closeups of plants and stuff.
ok, it wont let me upload the screen for some reason so Ill post it here : geocities.com/sam_2d_online/intensifidation.png

Well, here it is: http://www.geocities.com/sam_2d_online/st2.zip
I had plans to make 10 levels but recently have been a lot more into graphics and web design stuff than gamedev so I figured I might aswell send it in. Maybe at some point I will create all ten levels, but for now It is complete but with 7 levels. :)
