To the viewpoint of Someone Intellegent...
« on: 2008-07-14, 06:50:58 PM »
I've been thinking to put these thoughts on a forum... if you're are troubled by these thoughts, just dissmiss them as rubbish- but...
Upon my recent ponderings of life- I've asked:
Intellegence- is it a curse or a gift? the sayings of most people is usually the statement:
"Ignorance is bliss..." and I thought,  people who think about life with a certain brand of intellegence
are always usually riddled with deep questions or permanently scarred with their own dramatic answers. A young child is usually carefree of the troubling world that threatens to eventually swallow them into a pit of hard, undesirable truth. Another child who is just starting to question life may see their peers around them comfortable to their surroundings with no questions asked- I was and now am like that- and sometimes I think whether it would be better to be ignorant to life than to have the smarts to question it in such a repetetive manner. You may question my power of comprehension of the world by seeing this passage, many around me say the same.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy life, and have a positive input and output on it- I am neither depressed nor crazy- but I want to know if anyone- has ever thought about the effects of life and intellegence- feel free to speak yourr mind- I won't get offended by any negative comments.

It sounds related to a question/answer I was reading yesterday in a magazine/booklet about the 75 greatest questions of science.  One of the questions was "Will we ever find the secret to happiness?"  The answer suggested that happy people, content with their lives, are not the kind of people who change the world, and the people who affect the world are the people who are stressed by the current state of affairs.  I don't know if I agree with the answer entirely, but it's an interesting thought.  Is it better to be simple and happy, or to concern oneself with bigger questions and advance the human race toward some larger end?  On the larger scale it seems like we would want to be going somewhere, but on the personal level, that can be stressful.  My disagreement, however, is that I think being productive and having an effect can make a person very happy even if it was triggered by some dissatisfaction with the world.  And then back to your related question, I definitely think intelligence is a good thing for the world as a whole.  Maybe people just have to get over feelings of helplessness?  Not to get religious, but think of the intent of the serenity prayer:
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Intellegence- is it a curse or a gift?
I am sometimes trouble by that question too. And I too would like to live a simple life. However, when I try to live simple, I find it hard to live without life's complexity. If life was truly simple, there would be no need for a lot of things. If we were never bored, we wouldn't have hobbies to keep us busy. Different things occur because of life's complexity as well. Have you ever noticed the coincidences in life? Is it truly a coincidence or one of life's complexity?
