I reckon SGDK2 kicks gamemakers arse anyday.

sgdk2 is overall a better program, and it is also free ( i assume with all the free betas)

(is it just me or does that link come up with 0 results for both on google...that cant be right...)

I think Scrolling Game Development Kit had an unfair advantage in that particular fight because if you search for that phrase unquoted you get all sorts of results that have nothing to do with SGDK, and if you try a search for the quoted phrase directly on Google, you get far fewer results.  I was quite shocked to think that SGDK wasn't the underdog until I realized that it was :).  Looks like the site doesn't have a way to handle multi-word phrases the way one would want.

So if SGDK2 beats GameMaker, it's only in the way that the PS3 beats the Wii.  The design might be more sophisticated and more powerful in some respects, but since it has a narrower appeal, it's vastly less popular.  'Course in the case of the PS3, the price is also working against it, and SGDK is free so the similarity ends there.
