SGDK 2.1 Released
« on: 2009-01-17, 11:12:34 PM »
Scrolling Game Development Kit version 2.1 has been officially released.  The code is the same as that in beta 5.  I have also now, however, posted 2.1-compatible versions of all the sample projects in the library portion of the default download package to replace the 2.0 projects that were in the library portion of the download package for version 2.0.

Let me know if you run into any unexpected problems.

120 downloads yesterday  8).  (Probably thanks to the fact that this news item was published on gamedev.net's front page.)

Congratualations. I like the fact I can open it with Vista. Since when I tried doing it before, they wouldn't let me extract it.

Where do I extract it? Do I do it on the desktop or in program files.

I ask because when I went to the help file, instead of showing the contents it said "navigation to web page is cancelled" or "This adress is not valid".

You should be able to extract it anywhere, but I'm not sure how it behaves for various locations.  I would probably create a folder in Program Files and extract it there.  Have you tried accessing the help file directly or only through the IDE?  It's possible that it remembers that this is a downloaded file, and everything extracted from it is in a high security zone.  I know help files have problems displaying over a network due to security issues.  Maybe this is related.  Maybe if you get the properties of the help file you can turn down the security options on it or something.  All sorts of new security features with which I'm not familiar have been getting into the Windows OSes lately... not sure quite how to deal with them.

Yes, it works perfectly for me no matter where I put it, but then again, I have absolutely every security setting I could find turned off. I know this is a security risk, but I don't really care all that much. I have very little important data, and it's backed up. It's just easier to do it this way in the long run, otherwise the OS gets in my way....

That could solve a lot of errors

when you tried to download it, did you open it or did you save it to disk/file

Do you mean like my desktop?

I tried through both. And should I redownload it after turning down my internet settings?

I also get this error:

Register File Association

Acess to registry key 'HKey_Classes_Root.sgdk2' is denied.

But I can still run it. :)

I fixed it. Along with the help file error. :D
All I did was make one of the sample projects open with SGDK. By making it the default program to use for .sgdk2 files. And for some reason, my help files got fixed.
