3D in SGDK2
« on: 2012-03-17, 03:00:31 PM »
I would like to leave this here.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSDPIjlMt64

Hopefully this thread will become linked to into the future whenever a user asks the question if 3D is possible in SGDK2.
Although I know SGDK2 is primarily a 2D game development engine and was designed as such, I think that the gameplay style of a 2d platformer (Even an RPG or Shmup) could still be incorporated in a 3D environment. This could mean a 3D backgrounds, or 2D sprites in a 3D world (Such as Paper Mario, if you've seen)

And for the HTML5 Counterpart:
I've been looking into something called WebGL. I wonder if that may be used with the SGDK2 HTML5 Counterpart?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebGL

One question to anyone who knows, will there ever be any graphical and display based changes to any further releases of SGDK2?
To be honest, I don't see how it could possibly change any more than it is now. (For the Desktop Version)

I'm not sure I understand the question, but there are no graphical changes planned for SGDK2.  If anything else happens with SGDK2 it will probably be related to cross-platform support or a re-implementation as a web app.

(Topic split -- see "The future of SGDK").

This will be the last update to 3D in Super Happy Fun Land (And the last that I post)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lE-78aG2amI&feature=youtu.be

Any further updates will be made directly into the game.

This example shows how the camera can be used to show more of the game.

The 3D can be used in lieu of decent gameplay value. ;)
