Remove Splash Screen from GDPlay?
« on: 2006-06-25, 04:57:49 PM »
Hi,

I've read the forums here and someone had mentioned you could remove the SGDK splash screen by modifying a DLL...is this possible? Has someone done it? Can I get a copy of the modified DLL?

Normally I wouldn't want to do this sort of thing, however I'm trying to use the kit for a scavenger hunt-style project and we don't want the participants to know how to edit the game.

Thanks for your time,

Mike

There is a semi-secret command-line switch you can pass to GDPlay to hide the splash screen, but the value you have to pass to it depends on the project.  If you'd like me to give you the codeword for your project to hide the splash screen, you could send me a stripped-down version of it and I could get the codeword for you.  (You could do it yourself too if you have the GDPlay source code and debug into the handling for the "/n" switch.)

Aren't you nervous that the fact that GDPlay.exe is included with your package will be just as much a giveaway as the splash screen?

Thanks for your help! I'll let you know if I need the secret code.

I'm already going through quite a few steps to obfuscate the data files and rename everything. There will be a puzzle in the game and the goal is to make it harder to hack the game than to solve the puzzle.
