Right-click in map editor
« on: 2007-04-22, 11:27:56 AM »
I noticed that at one time, I think, at least, you had implemented something in the map editor which acts differently for a right-click than a left-click.  I can't find the post where I said something about this, so I'll create this one.  Also, in the latest alpha (4) I can't seem to find this functionality, so now I wonder if I'm just going crazy.  In spite of that, here's this:

What I was suggesting was when you right-click on a tile on the map, it selects that tile to be the current tile to be placed by left-clicking.  What it looks like happened is that you can simply have two selected tiles to place, one with LMB, one with RMB.  While this has some use, I think the other option would be much more useful (I know I would find it much more useful, anyway).  If, for example, you accidentally draw over one tile too far into another block of tiles, rather than finding the tile you want to put back in the list on the left, you can just copy it from the other tiles that are correct and put it right back where it belongs.

I think I remember you suggesting that, but I didn't implement it (I think I implemented other suggestions from the same post, and said that I could implement this one, but didn't yet)... and strangely, I didn't even implement separate functionality for the left mouse button and right mouse button (they do exactly the same thing -- there's only one active tile at a time), so I don't know how you got the idea that I did anything smart with the right mouse button :).  I think I was going to put that one off until a more fine-tuned wrap-up phase.  But that brings up another question -- how am I going to find all these suggestions if you can find them? :)  I haven't been keeping a list -- I guess because I wasn't sure which items to add and which to leave for later. But I suppose somewhere there should be a list of things to remember. I must be too lazy to do that or something... perhaps because I don't have Visual Studio up (with its task list) while I'm reading the forums.

I seriously could have sworn you had done something like that in an older version of the alpha.  At least, I'm pretty sure, because I left-clicked and it put down the tile I had selected, then I right-clicked and it disappeared, and then I saw that, so I tried right-clicking in the tiles and it selected that one, and right-clicking put down that one instead, so I thought, "huh, he must've done something," but maybe, as I said, I'm going crazy, or my computer is playing tricks on me, or it was all just a dream.

In any case, you could always add a to-do list into your start menu or a link to one on the internet in your links bar on the browser so it's easier to access.
