Waitwaitwait.  Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, whatever, dis them as much as you want, but Mario Kart!?  It's a staple that's been around since the SNES days, and frankly one of my favorite racing games!

Mario Kart may be slightly less gimmicky (using Mario's image to promote the game rather than the gameplay itself) than some of the other Mario games, but I still think it's gimmicky.  Mario and company are story characters with jumping and running moves.  They're not sporty characters designed for racing and playing tennis.  I say, get your own characters, you racers and sports game players :).  Mario is for platform gaming and possibly some Mario RPG and Paper Mario action.  Too bad I can't claim any authority on the subject having never owned any Nintendo system.

But c'mon, Mario's a plumber for Pete's sake... a plumber in a race car?  Why not a dinosaur in a race car... oh wait :)

actually, one of my "game ideas" i came up with a while ago was a slug racing game. :) who knows, if I ever get into game design in the future, I might start on it (i know, i am a big dreamer)

Mario kart's on snes and n64 were good, wasn't big on the gamecube or wii versions.

actually, if you've ever played the DS version, I thought that was amazing! before i actually saw MKDS, i was expecting MK64 graphics. the graphics on the DS are ao great, you could easily compare them to th GC version.

I don't like the latest ones at all. I liked the early two dimensional Mario platformers on the NES and SNES, but after they started cashing in on it too much with Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, Mario Kart, Mario Professional Banana Eating Contest, Mario this, Mario that, etc... ruined it.

Were you serious about Mario Professional Banana Eating Contest?

too bad they both have a lot of the worst games out of any console anyway... :S
I can think of plenty of good games for it. What were you hoping for it to have?

Since when have games needed to be logical?
But really, Mario Kart DS is a high-quality racing game that people still play years later after a console sequel was released. It's good.
It was also based on the N64 version of the game, which was one of the best.

I've made more new graphics for the Remository. Check 'em out, you may like them.

An amusement park owner? What game? Don't forget both Sonic and Mario competed in the Olympics. And now in the Winter Olympics as well.

search youtube for mario vs sonic commercials, they're funny. (wow we're getting off topic) but in the end, everyone here has different opinions on how sucessful the Nintendo franchise is.
