Make your game music right in your browser
« on: 2009-11-11, 04:09:36 AM »
Hey, if you'd like to have a crack at making your own game music, try Myna:
http://aviary.com/tools/myna

I haven't played with it much, but it looks great. Hope you find it useful...

(be sure to watch the video on that page. It gives you a quick idea of what it's capable of. Then check some of the examples  http://aviary.com/popular?t=myna )

Wow that site looks cool -- you can edit images and more there too.  I couldn't find any sounds in the Aviary library, though, only the quantum library.  Am I missing something?

Wow, yeah that site is quite awesome. I only heard about the music editor, but was surprised to find all the other powerful tools. This is fantastic stuff for browser based!

I'm not sure about the library, bluemonk. My poor old computer has gotten to the point where it'll overheat if I use it for more than about 30-45 mins. So I haven't done much other than watch the videos! I wonder did you actually sign up or did you hit that  "Launch Myna: See how this was created." button? If you just launched I would guess it's because you haven't made an account...?

There doesn't seem to be many tuts on their site, but I found some on YouTube. Perhaps you can find a vid to help ya there? I hope! Here's one I found: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6m5L5SA6oV4&feature=related   -Here's a link to youtube search for "aviary.com" that reveals decent looking selection of vidoes: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=aviary.com&search_type=&aq=f

Let me know how ya like it...I wanna try it, but with only about 30 mins of computer time each "session" I can't get much done!

(how much storage to they give ya?)

I saw the checkbox that said "mine only", but didn't realize it was checked by default.  When I un-checked it then Aviary clips started showing up in the library.

I'm not quite as ... umm... "fruity" as that vocal clip sounds :-[.

Created 100% online... that's cool.

Humph, that's a pretty good little beat you have there bluemonk! How long did that take ya?

How was Myna to work with, was it glitchy or slow? (browser based)

It seems a little extra cool, 'cause it looks like you can let people modify your music (assist). Plus it seems like an easy way to share your creations.

Cool stuff, I can't wait to play!

P.S...Can you make us an extended version of your song? It's a little short... ;)

That was probably half an hour to an hour... much of it just fiddling around to see how things work.  I can hardly take much credit.  It's basically 3 pre-sampled clips from the library strung together and mixed with a vocal clip I made.

And Myna is really responsive.  And I don't have a very modern computer either (6 years old)... and I was using FireFox.  Flash works well I guess.

Yes, the song is quite short... more of a breif interlude than a song I guess.  I didn't want to spend too much time because I knew I could sink half a day into it if I wasn't careful :).  And I have other things to do like play with the Legacy of Kain Revival game and try to get the graphics scaling to work without lines.
